Hand made in Germany

Exceptionally easy to play with an ultra-resonant voice, this fully carbon cello from Mezzo-Forte compares beyond admirably to traditional wood instruments. These cellos have a very even and stable temperament, rarely posing issues like pesky wolf tones. Unaffected by extreme climate changes and impervious to water, these are great instruments for those who have to deal with everything from outdoor performances to long periods of traveling. Three years of intensive research and development have produced an absolutely stunning carbon fiber cello. The difference between the EvoLine and the Design Line is that the EvoLine is not laquered, but is instead polished. I can't really tell the difference, frankly.

This instrument is warm with a malleable and even tone across all registers. The high end is  sweet; however, it is able to easily project and fill an enclosed space or be heard outdoors. The low end is rich and gravely, packing a punch when the player digs in.

This cello comes with a quality gigbag and Larsen Aurora strings.  If you would like a carbon fiber case, contact me so I can figure out what models will work with this cello. We sell this instrument stock; Linda doesn't touch the setup. If you want the professionally setup instrument, you have to purchase the Design Line.

All instruments are fully manufactured in Germany although they are set-up in the Mezzo-Forte workshop.

All instruments come with a certificate of authenticity and a unique serial number which makes them easy to identify.

From the maker:

After three years of intensive development we are proud to present the first fully carbon cello available on the worldwide market at an affordable price. The cello, designed and produced by us using state-of-the-art technology produces a quality of sound easily comparable to that of a wooden instrument whilst offering far greater presence, projection and ease of playing as well as being visually stunning.

"such elegant lines”, ”...a perfect finish,” ”...and wonderful to hold.” – initial reactions have been very positive.

The advantages of a carbon fiber cello:

- complete insensitivity to fluctuations in atmospheric conditions. (such as in temperature and humidity. )

- strength and stability

- visually stunning

- a full and pleasant sound, rich and warm with much ease of response

Details:

The body of the cello is hand crafted using carbon-fiber matting - made in Germany – guaranteed

The interior of the instrument corresponds to that of a traditional wooden instrument ; only the cornices are excluded - for two reasons :

1. A conscious decision to create a modern slim design whilst maintaining(mirroring) the form of a traditional
instrument.

2. The cornices of a wooden instrument serve to aid the construction, providing support and enabling the front, sides and bottom to be fixed firmly together. These cornices can dampen the sound and are not required when using carbon-fiber.

The sound post, bridge, pegs and tail piece all correspond to that of a traditional instrument. The fingerboard is made from a wood-based composite material called "flaxwood", which has the density and consistency of ebony and is recyclable, unaffected by humidity and temperature variations and free of irregularities such as grain and knots.

The instruments are individually numbered and come with a certificate of authenticity and a 5 year guarantee.

Buying a Cello Online from Linda West Cellos

All of our cellos (except for those on consignment or mezzo-forte instruments) come with a 14-day trial period. Once you receive your new cello, play it for 2 weeks, and if it's not "the one", contact us to discuss a return or replacement. Shipping costs back to us are the buyer's responsibility. Please see our FAQs for complete details.

Most cellos will come with a case and a bow. If you are shopping from a distance, Linda will select the most compatible bow for your cello by playing the instrument and trying out several bows. As for cases, most cellos will come with a standard hard case, which really depends on the availability. We often use Eastman CACL28 or CACL18 cases as our standard case. For more expensive instruments that are noted as coming with a lightweight hardcase, this also depends on what we have in stock, and what your chosen instrument will fit into. We usually are selecting from Gewa Air, Otto Musica, Eastman or Century Strings cases in the $1,000 - $1,400 price range. We usually give you a couple options of case and color.

We know that purchasing a cello online takes an incredible amount of trust, knowledge, and information. Therefore, we go the extra mile to make sure that you have as much information about your future cello soulmate as we can possibly provide. We would love to talk to you before you put that cello in your cart and purchase it so we can help you make sure it's going to be the right one for you. Unlike big, 'volume' shops, we are intimately familiar with each cello we have listed, and are experts at cello/player match-making. We are very passionate about making sure you receive the cello that is going to make your playing blossom, and put a smile on your face every time you play.
