A very colorful sound with many well-integrated overtones, a fine player will appreciated the ease at which one can pull subtle nuance from this cello. Dynamically, very responsive, but at the same time easy to play, it has plenty of texture with a solid core strength. A very resonant cello, it has a strong body feel to it with a well played-in bass bar that vibrates into the body, but also projects outward just as strongly. A noble, open D that plays nicely in upper positions doesn't fight with the player.

A cozy body size fits comfortably, feeling like the cello is a part of you. A new shop favorite for sure, this is my sister, Anne's, favorite of all time! This instrument is easy enough for a beginner to play, and would take a serious student or professional as far as they need to go. Paired with the right bow, this cello will be warm and smooth yet very colorful.

Master luthier and mentor of many fine Polish makers, such as Jacek Syska, Wojciech Topa, Maciej Łacek, Tomasz Kowalski & Jan Szlachtowski, Jan Bobak's instruments are known for features which make them similar to instruments made by old Italian masters. This beautiful instrument is no exception with a rich, woody, smokey tone reminiscent of well-aged (and well-loved) Italian cellos. The graceful lines of this instrument are eye-catching and engaging, obviously the work of a perfectionistic artist. Every detail is from the hand of a fine master, from the wood selection (1-piece back) and varnish, to the smallest details, like the proper angle of the corners and the shape and finish of the nut.

Gently played in by the owner of the company who imports our Polish instruments.

Buying a Cello Online from Linda West Cellos

All of our cellos (except for those on consignment or mezzo-forte instruments) come with a 14-day trial period. Once you receive your new cello, play it for 2 weeks, and if it's not "the one", contact us to discuss a return or replacement. Shipping costs back to us are the buyer's responsibility. Please see our FAQs for complete details.

Most cellos will come with a case and a bow. The pernambuco bow choice will typically be an Arcos Brasil Nickel-mounted bow, value $760. The Carbon option for that same level cello will be something in the same price range as the nickel-mounted pernambuco. If you are shopping from a distance, Linda will select the most compatible bow for your cello by playing the instrument and trying out several bows. If your instrument says it comes with a brasilwood bow, we have several different bows to choose from, and they are typically priced under $200. The carbon option will be similarly priced. Again, we will hand-select the bow for you if you are shopping online, making sure we select the most compatible bow for your instrument. If you have questions about this please reach out to us. As for cases, most cellos will come with a standard hard case, which really depends on the availability. We often use Eastman CACL28 or CACL18 cases as our standard case. For more expensive instruments that are noted as coming with a lightweight hardcase, this also depends on what we have in stock, and what your chosen instrument will fit into. We usually are selecting from Gewa Air, Musilia, Otto Musica, Eastman or Century Strings cases in the $1,000 - $1,400 price range. We usually give you a couple options of case and color.

We know that purchasing a cello online takes an incredible amount of trust, knowledge, and information. Therefore, we go the extra mile to make sure that you have as much information about your future cello soulmate as we can possibly provide. We would love to talk to you before you put that cello in your cart and purchase it so we can help you make sure it's going to be the right one for you. Unlike big, 'volume' shops, we are intimately familiar with each cello we have listed, and are experts at cello/player match-making. We are very passionate about making sure you receive the cello that is going to make your playing blossom, and put a smile on your face every time you play.
