Pierre Vidoudez Antique Pernambuco Cello Bow

Weight: 86.5g, Balance: 9 1/4"

Weight: 86.5 gms, Balance: 9 1/4"

Maker: Pierre Vidoudez

Powerful and dark, this bow needs little guidance to produce a robust, deep sound. It easily sinks into the string - the high range is honeyed and focused, the low range rich and smoky. This bow expertly navigates quick, intense passages; it bites the string effortlessly to produce a clear, strong attack. This bow is best suited for a cellist who prefers to rely on the weight of their bow to pull out a resonant, decadent tone.

Octagonal stick, silver-fitted. Vidoudez, Pierre Born 1907, Worked Lyons & Paris France, died 1994 Geneva Switzerland. Son and successor of Alfred Vidoudez, above. Graduated from business school in Geneva before attending the Mittenwald School of Violin Making. Subsequently worked for Boulangeot in Lyons, returning briefly to Geneva before studying repair and restoration with Caressa in Paris. Elected President of the Swiss Violin Makers Group in 1952.
