This vintage German cello in the pattern of Amati offers a rich, chocolatey tone that's both mellow and colorful. The projection is refined and reserved, making it particularly well-suited for the intimate blending that ensemble work demands.
The cello handles beautifully with a smooth, natural feel and supple resistance that encourages musical phrasing. Responsive to bow speed and seamless through shifts, the instrument provides the control and balance that discerning players appreciate. This is a distinguished cello with character and maturity.
Ideal for: Intermediate through semi-professional cellists seeking a vintage instrument with warm, ensemble-friendly tone.
This older German cello came to us from a local gentleman who was gifted the instrument from family friends when he went off to school at Dartmouth, and later, Oxford. A Rhodes scholar, he played the cello in various ad hoc chamber groups and community orchestras. He last played it in 2007 when his fellow members of the Dartmouth Quartet and he got back together to play the Dvorak American Quartet that they had played at their graduation 50 years before. Retired now from playing, he is hoping that this cello brings as much joy and fine music to another.
Older German instrument, most likely late 19th century. Repaired and refurbished by Linda West Cellos. The label is what we call a vanity label...not really by Amati, but patterned after his cellos. German.
