Knoll is a German family synonymous with bow making, beginning in 1932 by master bow maker, Alfred Knoll (1909-1980). Alfred's son, Hartmut Knoll (born in 1937), completed his master craftsman examination in 1965 and took over the company in 1977. Alfred`s grandson Gerald Knoll (born in 1968, master craftsman examination 1998) then took over the workshop in 2003 and continues to run it today. Knoll are renowned for their fine German bows for all stringed instruments.
