Lovely, unlabeled instrument reminding us of both French and English cellos from the late 18th century. This cello is sweet and mellow; it has a deep, subdued resonance across all four strings. The higher register is particularly warm and broad, the lower register chocolatey and rich. Quicker, more complex passagework feels light and effortless on this instrument; changing strings smoothly is an easy task. Lyrical passages sing beautifully, and when pushed, this instrument’s sound just gets fuller and fuller. This cello would suit a professional orchestral or chamber player looking for a buttery, blendable sound.
Slightly smaller body makes it easier to handle and get around the upper bout. The string length is only a tad smaller than a typical 4/4; not really enough to make much of a different. See the +Measurements link below the photos.
