This exceptional, exact replica of the famous 1777 'Simpson' Guadagnini captures the warm, colorful tonal palette that made Guadagnini's instruments legendary. The cello responds effortlessly under the bow with nimble articulation and light resistance, making it a joy to play for extended sessions. Despite being newly crafted, this instrument displays a refined maturity and versatility rarely found outside of well-aged cellos.
Upper register passages sing with clarity and ease, while the cello projects with clean, bold character across all registers. The energetic, responsive feel inspires confidence in performance. Earning My Fave and our Best Overall Value badges, this cello would best suit intermediate to advanced students, conservatory musicians, and serious amateur adults seeking a professional-quality instrument that they won't soon grow out of. Blends beautifully in orchestral sections and chamber music ensembles.
The 'Simpson' Guadagnini is a bit scaled-down instrument; slightly shorter body, slightly shorter string length than a full size, slightly more narrow in the bouts, making it more compact than a 4/4, but not quite as small as a 7/8.
This 1777 Guadagnini replica was designed and built specially for Linda West Cellos of select European tonewood. The instrument's refined scaling makes it ideal for players seeking more manageable proportions without compromising tonal sophistication.
Cello comes with a hard case and a nice bow.
All cellos are setup by Linda and played before being shipped, guaranteed.
